Sledding Down the Dam Hill

Posted by: kriddlemcgriddle on: February 8, 2009

When I lived in Georgia I actually craved snow days.  There was nothing better than waking up to find that they were calling for an inch or two of snow.  I’ve seen entire towns shut down just because a weather forecaster claimed it, ‘might snow’.  No work.  No school.  Just playtime!

When I moved to Illinois I was excited for winter to arrive.  The problem is they don’t close anything for snow here.  You simply have to wake up earlier in order to make it to your destination on time.  When it snows it stays on the ground for a long time before it melts so it gets so nasty ugly dirty.  When it snows, melts a tad, compacts and refreezes the melty top layer it gets very slippery.  All…not good.

I’d almost given up on my previously most beloved season.  HOWEVER!  My kids were finally old enough to try out sledding down the dam hill.  I’m not mispelling dam for damn.  There really is a dam for the lake there…hence the dam hill.  Anyway.

It was scary but SO FUN!  I love winter again!  I love snow again!  I wanna go again!  I love the snow blowing in my face, the speed, the uncontrollable nature and well, just all of it.
This was only halfway up the hill!!
